The Region of Central Greece has identified and highlighted the need for an integrated intervention strategy for correlating environment protection, natural and technological disaster risks mitigation, business infrastructure development, investment attraction, job creation and rural and urban social cohesion activities. For these reasons, Region must adopt practices and development activities for protecting its natural resources, while driving urban and rural entrepreneurship.

For these reasons, Region must adopt practices and development activities for protecting its natural resources, while driving urban and rural entrepreneurship.

PRIORITY ISSUES

The pilot plans to introduce new interventions that improve training opportunities and digital skills, facilitate the adoption of new farm management practices (e.g. smart farming), develop social capital between newcomers and local populations, and facilitate access of the many of region’s resources (e.g. infrastructure, funding and financing).

Effectiveness of all the proposals and measures of the PoliRURAL programme in order to make rural areas attractive.

Expected outputs

A set of challenges have been identified, and will be updated according to a “monitoring – understanding – adjustment” cycle in a co-creation with the identified stakeholders. The methodologies developed in the PoliRural project relate to a cascade of global megatrends to relevant regional trends and to policy options in an explicit geo-referenced framework. The PoliRural tools developed will be tested and implemented in the Flanders’ region to face rural challenges related to:

BEST PRACTICES

As part of the Polirural project, information on individual entrance case studies and other data from pilot regions will be published in the Atlas. The Atlas of the Best Practices visualizes relevant cases on a map and provides easily accessible information to inform and inspire other stakeholders. Best practices and pilot examples are collected by project project partners and there is a need to identify, synthesize, share and present individual examples and provide opportunities for new paths and other subjects. YIANNIS ADAMAKOS

Yiannis was raised on a farm and in recent years introduced operational changes to update his business. He cultivates his farm and sells the produce directly to merchants. Farming has been a family affair. Yiannis’ father has owned farmland in Polidroso. But now he is retired, so Yiannis decided to continue the family business.
